WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT TANEATUA The June meeting of the Women’s Institute at Taneatua was a particularly enjoyable one. Mrs Gardner presided over a good attendance and routine business was dealt with.

The roll call ‘My Favourite Musical Competition” was responded to by all present. There was a very decided leaning towards the old favourites such as “Remembrance” the “Strauss Waltzes” etc. The debate was “Jazz versus Classical Music” with Mesdames Gardner and Fogerty speaking for Jazz and Mesdames Bennett and McDonald for Classical Music. Ifi spite of fluent and able speaking on the part of the jazz advocates classical music had a very clear cut win when it came to popular vote. Entertainment was provided by Mesdames Peebles, Gardner and Grey who gave pianoforte selections both jazz and classical. An appreciated afternoon tea was provided by Mesdames Moore, Adams and Dalgeish. Competitions were won as follows: Knitted gloves Fair Isle, Mrs Bennett 1; Mrs Flavell 2. Gingerbread, Mrs Kempton 1. Best flower, Mrs Grey 1; Mrs Hayward 2. July Meeting The July meeting of the Taneatua Women’s Institute was held in the hall supper room. An invitation was received from Waimana Institute to be present at its Birthday Celebrations next month and several members expressed the hope that they would be able to attend. The roll call “Sing, Say or Pay” was very well responded to and proved to be a very amusing interlude.
