EASTERN BAY v WESTERN BAY WAIMANA TEAM’S SUCCESS Before an audience of more than 100 people from various parts of both districts, a team from the Waimana Young Farmers’ Club representing Eastern Bay of Plenty last Wednesday night in the Paengaroa Hall defeated a team from Te Puna Y.F.C. representing Western Bay of Plenty at debating. The teams were J. Cranswick, J. Marra and Dave White for Eastern and H. Parker, A. Lloyd and L. Lockheed for Western Bay. The adjudicator, Mr Cook,, headmaster of the Te Puke school commented very favourably on the extremely high standard of debating and the fine work of the Young Farmers’ Club movement in developing good citL zenShip. He also congratulated in particular the leader of the winning team on his clear, lucid and wellconsidered exposition of his argument. The Waimana team will next represent the Eastern area of Auckland Province in a debate against either Waikato, South Auckland or Auckland Central areas of the Y.F.C. movement in the. Auckland Province. It brought back to Eastern Bay and will hold for one year on behalf of Eastern Bay a Challenge . Shield and a Challenge Cup which have been held for several years by Western Bay. Next year Western Bay will send a representative team to this district in an endeavour to recover’ these trophies and if debating form improves on the present standard, some very excellent dialectics are assured.
