SCHOOL RUGBY

TAI MITCHELL SHIELD

WHAKATANE HEPS. CHOSEN The Tai Mitchell Shield, a Shield competed for annually among schools in the Bay of Plenty, has been held by the Whakatane District Schools since 1939. Competition for the Shield formerly took place at a Football Tournament, but during the war, and for this year, this has been abandoned, the challenge system being adopted. There is also another fine shield, the Boynton Shield, at present held by Tauranga Schools. This was presented to the runner-up of the tournament, and will again be competed for when the tournament is resumed.

The following primary school boys have been selected to represent the Whakatane district in matches against Opotiki on July 19th and Rotorua on August *4 Oth for the Tai Mitchell Shield: —

Forwards: Eivers, Needham, Herewini, Mason, Tawa, Lowe, Hill, Taru, Stevenson, Bowering, Maxwell. Backs: Hika, Wano, Hohapatar, Matiu, Rossiter, Fowell, Hawea, Williams, Black.
