AXEMEN’S DANCE

NOVEL NIGHT AT AWAKERI LARGE CROWD ATTENDS The Awakeri Hall was well filled last Saturday evening when the recently formed Axemen’s Association staged ias first dance. The feature of the evening was the exhibition chop by Mr Ben Hill, who severed a 12in block in traditional style, and was heard to openly declare his willingness to tackle a 2ft. log on the next occasion.

The crowd was definitely out for fun and enjoyment and with Mr M. Perkinson as M.C. and the Premier Dance Band providing their usual sprightly music, the whole evening was a huge success. Modern and old-time steps were the vogue whilst novelties included a ‘Spot’ waltz won by Mr and Mrs Pinkham, and a Monte Carlo won by R. Jensen and Miss Miller. The chopping interlude is probably without precedent in this district, and provided a genuine thrill for the crowd.

Supper was served by a .willing crowd of lady workers after which the M.C. thanked all present for their attendance, & pointed out that the Association hoped in future to be able to stage other social evenings in an effort to become financial. He trusted future gatherings would be as successful as the present one.
