OBITUARY

MRS. ELIZA SERGANT The death occurred recently 4 of Mrs. Eliza Sergant, wife of Mr. H. Sergant, of Goulstone Road, -Whakatane. The late Mrs Sergant was born in Oxfordshire seventy-seven years ago. She received her education in Oxfordshire, and was later apprenticed to a milliner in Berkshire, near. Ascot. In 1889, she moved to Arundel. In 1896 she was married to Mr H. Sergant, then a joiner employed by his father, a builder at Arundel. The couple remained in England until 1907 when they decided to make a new home in New Zealand. They arrived in Wellington by the Mamari in 1907, and shortly after came to Whakatane. For a short time they lived in a small cottage this side of the wharf and later moved into Goulstone Road.

Mrs. Sergant went with her husband to Manurewa in 1927, where for the next two years they were engaged in a storekeeping enterprise They returned to Whakatane, however, and have resided here continuously since that time Although suffering from ill-health particularly during the last three years, and unable to move about as much as formerly, Mrs- Sergant had many friends who held her in the highest esteem, and valued her friendship .. The greatest sympathy'will be extended to her husband
