The Photo Finish '“'The-.Canterbury Jockey Club has Redded to install the “Photo Finish” apparatus at Riccarton for the Grand National Meeting and will be the first racing institution in the Dominion to take this step. The club’s president was of the opinion that there was no special need for the photographic instalment at Riccarton, but the club could not afford to be behind the times. Working Shoes At the Ashburton meeting owner S. H. Paul was fined £25 for a breach of the Rules of Racing in running Douglas Haig with plates in front and shoes behind. Many will be of the opinion that a lesser penalty would have met the case, as this particular rule is not known to all owners. A Winning Coronach The Coronach four year old Leigh Barton, scored a most convincing •victory in the Moreton Handicap at the Ashburton meeting. In a field of eleven he carried 9.12, ran the seven furlongs in 1.27 4-5 and won by four lengths. In nine starts this season he has registered five wins, two sechnds and a third, and it is noted that he will be heard of again. Chatsworth for South The sire Chatsworth, imported some years ago by Mr H. W. Burch of Rotorua, has been sold to Mr W. J. Mitchell, of Waimate, South Canterbury. A Big Stakes Winner The Australian champion, Bernborough, has now won in stakes the sum of £20,952. A Sydney writer makes a special note of the fact that he stands 17 hands 1 inch high, and that he is higher at the withers than at any point of his hind-quarters.
