ARABIAN TREE MAY STOP EROSION
Tests will be made of an Arabian desert tree in an effort to overcome Wimmera soil erosion.
Slips of the tree, Tamarik Aphylla, commonly known as the Athel tree, are to be obtained byv.the Lowan Shire Council. Mr Hyam, Victorian horticultural supervisor, said that these trees had almost eliminated dust problems near mining dumps at Broken Hill. Good reports had been received about plantations established two years ago at St. Arnaud. The tree was barely known in the Mallee, where it would help reduce wind erosion.
