“The Cat Sat on the Rail Top—”
In the midst of the hustle and bustle which represented the Strand on Monday, a singularly sublime feature was the presence of a cat which sat for the better part of the day without a single movement, except when a passer-by paused to stroke it, atop a rail near the offices of a firm of local legal gentlemen. Serenely it sat, apparently oblivious to the disturbance about it, contemplating, no doubt, upon the higher aspects of cat life (the next morning’s breakfast). The feline, we believe, was the one we remarked upon several weeks ago i.e. the one which sat consistently snoozing on a sloping window sill. Apparently it has changed its perch, and its present one certainly looks more comfortable. At least it is level.
