HOTEL LICENSING

TANEATUA APPLICATION REVIEWED The annual meeting of the Bay of Plenty Licensing Committee took place in the Opotiki Courthouse recently. The chairman, Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., presided, members present being Messrs. A. Young, G. S. Moody, E. Pile, A. Nicol and F. W. R. Graham. Sergeant Isbister represented the police. Mr N. V. Hodgson appeared in support of the application of Harold Cochran Alexander for a renewal of accommodation license in respect to the Taneatua Hotel. Mr Hodgson stated that the minor recommendations of the Police and Health Departments had been complied with. With regard to the Health Department’s recommendation that consideration should be given to rebuilding in the near future, Mr Hodgson stated that the owners felt that they should not be asked to rebuild until conditions in this respect became easier.

In granting the application, the •chairman stated that the commitI tee’s attitude was that although the practical difficulties associated with building were recognised, its recommendations should be given attention and examination.
