SOLDIER SETTLEMENT
LAND ACQUIRED FOR REHABILITATION FIGURES FOR APRIL An addition of nearly 11,000 acres during April brought the total land acquired for the settlement of former members of the forces up to 277,342 acres, states the Rehabilitation Deartment. Of this total 220,264 acres had been acquired under the provisions of the Small- Farms Act, 45,799 under Section 51 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, and 11,279 under Part Two of the latter act. The actual acquisitions during April under the authorities, and in the same order, given above were, 9891 acres, 348 acres, and 788 acres. The 45,799 acres acquired under Section 51 of the Servicemen’s Settlement and Lands Sales Act was made up of 164 privately owned properties capable of subdivision into 238 single unit farms. Properties' covered in the above areas acquired for settlement since the previous month’s details were released are listed below. Two areas owned by Messrs. J. H. and Ji T. Alderson on the main Ohura-Mokau Road, Taranaki Land District, totalling 777 acres; property of L. H. Larner, five miles south of Morrinsville, 1053 acres; estate of Wm. Philphott, two and a half miles from Morton Mains, Southland Land District, 669 acres; property of G. A. Pearce, near Putaruru, 540 acres; property of W. J. Roberts, at Clin, ton, Otago, 625 acres; property of L. R. Darling and F. R. Hudson, at Clinton, 4657 acres property of A. T. Maiden, 15 miles north-west of Ashburton, 952 acres; and the property of C. T. Harrigan, at Taumarunui, 516 acres.
