REHABILITATION FIGURES
REACH OVER £27,000,000 With an increase of £1,799,253 during April the total authorised cost of Rehabilitation to date had reached £27,287,878 by the end of that month according to a statement released by the Rehabilitation Board. The published figures however do not take into account those relating to farm and trade training and education before the beginning of April, 1944. The current total is made up as follows: Authorised loans £19,804,240 trade and farm training and education £2,213,042, blinded servicemen £21,065, grants to Disabled Servicemen’s Re-establishment League £52,000, special grants and allowances £590,611; aid to Maori and Maori Rehabilitation Finance Committee, Native Land Act and Native Housing Act £240,475; purchase and development of land for settlement together with related expenses £4,366,445. An analysis of the £19,804,240 worth of loans authorised up to the end of April shows that they were apportioned as follows: For the establishment of demobolised men on their own farms £7,302,067; for the erection of houses £4,023,410; for the purchase of houses £5,622,566; for the establishment of businesses £1,608,070; interest free furniture loans £1,196,650; interest free loans ■for the purchase of tools of trade £28,585; miscellaneous £22,892.-
