Dear Sir,

Letters to the Editor must be clearly written on one side of the paper only and where a nom-de-plume is used the name of the writer must be included for reference purposes. The Editor reserves the right to abridgej amend or withhold any letter or letters. LEPER FUND CANVASSERS Sir, —I Shall -be grateful for a little space to warn your readers of persons calling from house to house in different parts of New Zealand allegedly on behalf of our leper fund No one has been authorised to do this. My committee does not permit This means of collecting and neither do we employ canvassers. Trusting that you will pass this note on to your readers.

Yours etc., P. J. TWOMEY, “Leper Man,” Christchurch. GRADE RUGBY POINTS Sir, —In your issue of June 10th you published some very misleading facts regarding the position of the teams on the senior rugby ladder. From the figures, which I presume are approximately correct, published in your paper each week, Paroa with 10 points ahead of Ruatoki and “the two claimants to Union honours” (as per 10th June edition) Taneatua and United have six and three points respectively. As only five series of matches have been played it is hard to understand why such a position should have arisen. Possibly your rugby reporter is too “hoary with years <f rugby experience” to keep up vv:th the game or perhaps the single optic which he does appear to use is out of focus.

No doubt in publishing reports burdened with adjectives you have the interests of the game at heart, but I can see no reason why a team equal to second last on the champion ship ladder should receive all tne limelight.

Yours etc., “FOOTBALL FAN.” P.S. Not that I expect it to be published.

(We can only assume,' by the tone of our correspondent’s letter, that his ire has been aroused by his own* exclusion from our reports. Our reporter informs us that even with ‘one eye’ he was unable to discern any football prowess of note on his behalf. He qualifies it however by remarking that the ‘burden of adjectives’ would have become too lurid for publication had he closely followed his play to any marked degree. We have referred the matter complained of to the Secretary of the Union, who has undertaken to publish the competitional points on Monday next when the bye-matches will have been evened up and the round completed. We will be happy to publish at all times honest criticism, but would be happier if the writer’s name was likewise released for publication. Ed.)
