AWAKERI W.D.F.U.

- MONTHLY MEETING v The monthly meeting of the Awakeri branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Awakeri Hall on May 28, Mrs Haultain presiding over a good attendance. Mrs N. Carter was appointed delegate to the Dominion Conference in Wellington in July when the 21st birthday of the Women’s Division will be celebrated and two other members expressed the hope to attend. Arrangements were made for a dance to be held on June 15 ; to raise funds for W.D.F.U. work. Mrs Barr gave an interesting talk on C.0.R.5.0. and members agreed to bring to each meeting all surplus fats to be taken to the depot in Whakatane. In view of the fact that the benzine restrictions had been lifted members decided to form gardening, music and drama circles. The winners of the competition for a decorated bowl of leaves and berries were Mrs Carter 1, Mrs Allan 2, Mrs Wilson 3.

The monthly competitions were won as follows:—Best flower: Mrs D. MacDonald 1, Mrs Barr 2, Mrs Mat&hitt 3. Best fruit: Mrs McGougan 1, Mrs Luke 2, Mrs Carter 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Barr 1, Mrs Hyland 2, Mrs Haultain 3.
