PHILATELY
LOCAL STAMP ENTHUSIASTS BAY OF PLENTY SOCIETY FORMED Stamp enthusiasts rallied in good numbers last Wednesday evening in answer to an advertised endeavour to form a local Philatelic Society. The gathering took place at the home of Mr C. R. Coates, Haig Street, and it was unanimously decided to form a new organisation to be known as the Bay of Plenty Philatelic Society.
Mr Coates an ex-member of the Waikato Society, gave a brief outline of the activities of such organisations and emphasised the need to maintain the art of stamp collection merely as a hobby and as a social, means of bringing collectors together for their mutual benefit. The election of officers resulted' - President: Mr H. O. Gar away. Vice-president: Mr C. R. Coates. . Secretary-Treasurer: Mr T. Dixon. Sales Superintendent: Mr C. R. Coates. / * Committee: Messrs. R. S. Whittaker, K. N. Hannah, C. KingsleySmith and Miss Morgan. The annual subscription was fix 2d at 5/- (seniors) and 2/6 (juniors). It was decided to meet once monthly on the second Wednesday of each month, the venue to be arranged by the executive from time to time at the homes of suitable members. • A constitution read and explained by Mr Coates was recommended by the meeting to the executive for formal adoption after further investigation. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Coates for their hospitality.
