PRACTISE TEAMS The following players are requested to attend practice on June 1. Players for the A and B teams will be selected from the names shown: J. Thompson, J. Lawson, T. Tekori, M. Thompson, E. Powell, J. Watene. Practice commences at 1.30 p.m. KING’S BIRTHDAY TOURNAMENT The seven aside Hockey Tournament to be held on King’s Birthday on the Whakatane Showgrounds promises to be a Very good day’s hockey. At present there are 8 women’s teams and 8 men’s entered, with the possibility of more entering before Monday. This is the first tournament of this kind that has been held in the Whakatane Association since 1939 when the event included men’s teams only. Some very fast and exciting games are expected in both competitions and the committee is hoping that this will be the beginning of a permanent fixture each hockey season.

At the general meeting'on Wednesday night a further ladies team was entered in the championship competition making a grand total of 12 teams which will be played off in two divisions and 6 men’s teams. A Junior men’s team was nominated from Ahuwhenua (Ruatoki) and Rangitaiki applied to field - two junior teams, but unfortunately the travelling situation this year made it impossible to arrange fixtures for the teams who will regret it was decided not to accept their nomination this year. It is hoped next season to have just as strong a junior competitions both men and women as there are senior this year. Fixtures for this Sunday (men): Wairaka v Whakatane at Whakatane; Rangitaiki v Ruatoki A at Ruatoki; Ahuwhenua v Tuhoe at Ruatoki. (Ladies): Wairaka v Whakatane at Whakatane; Rangitaiki v Ruatoki at Ruatoki; Ahuwhenua A v Tuhoe at Ruatoki. 2nd Dvision: Poroporo A v Te Teko at Poroporo; Poroporo B v Te Teko B at Poroporo; Taneatua v Ahuwhenua B at Ruatoki. WAIRAKA CLUB Players to represent Wairaka against Whakatane on Sunday, will be selected from the following:— Ladies: Mrs Williams, Mrs Clarke, Mrs R. Lawson; Mrs M. Tuhoro, Mrs K. Horopapara, Mrs H. Rangihika, Mrs P. Arnett, M. Melbourne, P. Kelly, M. Kelly, F. Paul, S. Araroa, E. Tawhai. Men: W. Penny, S. Pyne, H. Hudson, S. Merito, B. Nuku, W. Jaram, T. Riini, J. Ngongo, P. Peta, N. Ija, R. Crapp, J. Rua, S.. Davis. All players are requested to assemble on the field at 1.15 p.m'.
