WINGS OVER WHAKATANE
LOCAL AERO AND GLIDER CLUB GENERAL MEETING HELD The first general meeting of the newly formed Whakatane Aero and Glider Club took place in the County Council Chamber's on Wednesday, some 25 enthusiasts being present. Further definite steps were taken to place the club on an active basis, and according to the President, Mr C. H. Brebner, flying would be taking place in the very near future. Business of the meeting dealt mainly with a number of recommendations put forward by the committee. Opening the meeting, the President stated that the first thing to be considered was the matter of incorporation. The old club had been incorporated, and the committee was of the opinion that the new one should follow suit. Incorporation had certain advantages such as limiting the liability of members. It was decided that the committee should be empowered to proceed with the incorporation of the club. . Rules In dealing with the matter of rules, the President stated that these were based on those of the Auckland Club, with certain alterations recommended by the committee. After the alterations had been; read, the meeting adopted the rules and amendments laid down. Royal blue and light blue were decided upon for club colours. Instruction Available The Secretary (Mr T. H. Morgan) reporting on a communication received from the Auckland Club, stated that this body was preparing to assist country clubs by appointing two instructors to travel from place to place, spending approximately a week in each centre. The main expenses each individual club would be called upon to meet would be board and lodging for the Instructor, and flying time from town to town. There were, however, ways arid means of meeting these costs so that they would not prove a burden. An offer had also been received from Tauranga and it was merely a question of which club could give the better service. Further Officers
It was decided that the question of the appointment of a Club Captain be held in abeyance until activities were further organised and that the committee be authorised to make the appointment later in the year. Subsequent Captains would be appointed at future annual general meetings in the normal fashion. Hon. Solicitor to the Club was appointed in the person of Mr G. Otley, whilst Mr T. Harland was elected to fill the position of Hon. Auditor. A Social Committee consisting of Mrs Griffiths, Miss Cobb, and Messrs A. Johnson, Griffiths and Don Boon was appointed. Messrs. H. G. Warren, R. E. Butler, E. Brown and C. L. Jordan were elected to form a Finance Committee. Proposed Lectures A suggestion was, that until flying could actually commence, a series of lectures on appropriate subjects should be given. In this manner an active interest in the club would be maintained. Further to the proposal, Mr Brebner said that the A.T.C. Headquarters Building and equipment were available, and he thought the club should avail itself of these facilities. Enrolment of Members
At the conclusion of the meeting, the enrolment of members took place, additional twenty odd niom* inations, including three for life membership, being received. Total membership of the club is now in the vicinity of fifty. Subscriptions were stipulated as Under:— Associate Member (non-flying) £1 Is Pilot Member fills Pupil Member £1 Is Lady Member 5/6 A.T.C.
