RED CROSS ACTIVITIES

EASTERN BAY OF PLENTY CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the above took place in the Red Cross Rooms on Wednesday, May 1, at if a.m. Delegates from the sub-centres of Awakeri, Edgecumbe, Matata, Taneatua, Te Teko and Whakatane were present and the delegates/from two recently formed sub-centres of Otakiri and Thornton were welcomed. Balance sheets and president’s reports for each sub-centre and for the Centre were read and approved. The reports showed that both financially and from the point of view of work done, the Centre is in a healthy position. Mrs Semmen’s resignation as Junior Red Crq,ss Organiser for the Centre was accepted with regret. Mrs Semmens agreed to continue to work as Junior Organiser for the Taneatua sub-centre. No new appointments was made, Mrs Winstone agreeing to carry on as Organiser until a suitable replacement could be found. The election of officers resulted as follows: President: Mrs W. Sullivan.

Vice-presidents:. Mrs L. B. Smith (Te Teko), Mrs Ricketts (Taneatua). Secretary-Treasurer: Mrs Winstone.

Delegates to the Dominion Council were Mrs Sullivan and Mrs Winstone, and to the Junior Red Cross Council the Organiser, v when appointed. In the absence of Mrs Prideaux, and with no recommendation from the V.A.D. the appointment of a delegate to V.A.D. North Island Committee was held over. As many of the ladies who represent the Red Cross in the subcentres had been assiting the R.S.A. campaign for funds the Roll Call had not been finalised, so complete figures were riot available.

It was decided that the Centre would support the Waikato scheme for food for Britain.

It was agreed that the Centre should carry, the extra cost to enable the “Monty berets,” which are Junior Red Ci’oss headgear for bols, should be available to members at 1/6 each instead of 3/-. The Junior Red Cross, badge also to be subsidised so that the cost to Juniors remain at 1/-.
