Awakeri National Party

Members and others interested are reminded that the annual meeting of the Awakeri Branch of the N.Z. National Party takes place on Tuesday (tomorrow) May 21st in the hall at 8 p.m.

Posts Donated At the meeting of the Whakatane School Committee last Wednesday evening, it was decided to write a letter of appreciation to Mr F. G. Mahy, who, at the completion of laying several coui’ts at the school, donated and erected fo.ur posts to serve as tennis net strainers. ( Lady M.P.s Visit Attention is drawn to the visit to Whakatane of Mrs Hilda Ross, M.P. for Hamilton. Mrs Ross who is regarded as a noted speaker will address a public meeting in the Caledonian Hall on Tuesday, May 21, at 2 p.m. (tomorrow). All ladies are cordially invited to attend and a light afternoon tea will be provided. Resignation Accepted At the last meeting of the Whakatane School Committee on Wednesday evening, the resignation of the Secretary, Mr T. C. Johnston, who has left the district, was received with regret. After placing on record their appreciation of his services, the committee decided to go into the matter of appointing a new member. Ladies Not Forgotten Several speakers at last Saturday’s Rod and Gun Club social expressed the opinion that the club owed it to its lady members to extend a special social to them in recognition of their willing work at shoots and other gatherings. It was gathered from the remarks of the chairman that next year this will probably be carried out.
