A well-known Sydney business man who is revisiting New Zealand after a lengthy absence, told a reporter he was astounded at the changes he saw. He said he had spent some time in all the chief centres, and that one of the things that had more especially struck him was that all the tobacconists seemed to be ; selling New Zealand toasted tobacco. “I’ve sampled all five brands” he said, “Riverhead Gold, Desert Gold, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. 10, also tailormades. They are of varying strengths but are all excellent. The toasting process to which these tobaccos are subjected certainly makes a wonderful difference. It not only vastly improves flavour and bouquet, but ! partly eliminates the nicotine. You can smoke the toasted to any extent with absolute safety. I can quite understand the hold these tobaccos have got on the public, and I am satisfied that their manufacture is destined to become one of your foremost industries.”
