“TIFFINETTE”

In a time-worn tin on the mantleshelf “Tiffinette” is wont to hide herself And dream of soothing spicey

breezes In a land where every prospect pleases; While moonbeans gild, - the glittering tide And cobras through the jungle glide. The tiger trails his elusive bride Native maidens slim and brown With eyes that look demurely down, Gather the leaves that are cured and curled To supply the markets of the world. While the fragrant tea is brewing Tiffinette is up and doing;

Making record flying trips From steaming cups to expectant lips. Causing hearts to glow and eyes to

meet With a friendliness sincere and sweet. At tea on the Terrace at Westminster Famous Statesmen sip and stir Enjoying gratefully in their chairs A brief respite from world affairs May the spirit of Tiffin eradicate All cause for fear and envious fate And bring folks everywhere to see Their one and only aim must be A world-wide unanimity;

That will banish bitterness and strife And give the world new lease of life. Guaranteed henceforth to be

Like a reunited family Enjoying a good old cup of tea In the gloaming, when the lights

are low With Tiffinette flitting to and fro. An unseen but ever welcome guest Dispensing the balm of peace and rest. H. SERGANT.
