OBITUARY
MR CYRIL ARTHUR TIMES In the death of Mr Cyril Arthur Timbs, Whakatane has lost another widely respected citizen of long standing business and social association. Born in Oxford, fifty-six years ago, the late Mr Timbs was educated at East Oxford Private Boarding School. He entered his father’s butchery business in Oxford and at the age of nineteen years decided to try life in the Dominion. After a brief visit to this country in 1909, he returned to England, married and with his wife went to Saskatoon in Canada where they remained two years.
Coming to New Zealand again, Mr Timbs first found employment with the Auckland Meat Co. He then went to Taihape, Mercer and finally to Whakatane in 1922 where he set up business in the premises now occupied by N. Rigden. Disposing of this business he acted as manager for Messrs. Thompson and Ernest for some time, finally securing the business himself and setting up under the name of C. H. Timbs and Sons some ten years ago. The late Mr Timbs was a staunch supporter of the Anglican Church, having been a member of the Vestry for many years. He also served a term on the Borough Council. He was a keen sportsman and a prominent member of the Rod and Gun Club. He was known to many for his friendly disposition and his many kindnesses. He is survived by his widow and two sons, Messrs. Ronald and Vernon Timbs both of Whakatane. There are six grand children.
A brother is Mr S. S. Timbs of Wanganui who is also in the butchery business and has taken an active interest in the export meat trade.' -
