Wild Horses at Football

An unforgettable interlude during a somewhat torrid engagement between Ruatoki and Wairaka at Ruatoki last Saturday, was the sudden and completely unheralded appearance of half a dozen galloping horses through the heart of the struggling forward tussle. For a moment even the wildly excited spectators gasped, as horses and men all racing at a gallop appeared to be tied up inextricably in tangled mass. The game went on without a pause, and so did the horses. The spectators cheered shrilly as the quadrupeds found the line and bolted for the shelter of some trees. Both Maori sides never batted an eyelid and played doggedly on throughout, as though the incident was quite the usual portion at local matches. Our reporter, however, hoary with years of Rugby experience confessed that he had never seen anything to parallel the incicident.
