LOCAL AVIATION

SEARCH FOR LANDING FIELD SANDHILLS POPULAR VOTE The new r ly elected committee of the Whakatane Aero and Gliding Club has wasted no time in investigating the possibilities of establishing an airfield in or adjacent to the town. The President, Mr C. H. Brebner, reports that already many excursions have been made into the county, and the popular vote of all members is for the large area of waste land, composed mainly of sandhills lying north of the town. Advantage was taken of the visit of the Minister of Lands to the town to enlist his sympathy. The Minister promised his fullest co-operation and will make personal representations to the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) under whose administration the question of aviation comes. He stated that in all probability an officer of the Department will visit the site for the purpose of making a full report.
