RECENT SALES

PEDIGREE JERSEYS TOP PRICE 120 GUINEAS Buyers were present from North Auckland, Waikato and all parts of the Bay of Plenty at the first two sales of the Pedigree Jersey Series which were held at Waimana on April 30 on account of Messrs. F. J. Savage and Son, and on May 1 on account of Messrs. F. R. Looney, R. L. MacDonald and J. B| Wardlaw. Values at the dispersal of the Tuhoe Stud were comparatively lower than at similar fixtures held last season, despite the fact that the cattle offered were in excellent condition. The top price of the sale was 56 guineas, for the cow Tuhoe Happy Mayflower H.C. purchased by Wright Stephenson and Co. as agents for the Platform Farm, Greytown. Mr Noel Simpson, Auckland, purchased two H.C. cows Tuhoe Gold Box and Tuhoe Happy Flash at 47£ and 45 guineas respectively. The 66 Lots sold averaged 23 1-3 guineas.

Mr K. G. Paulgrain’s line of 2-year pedigree in-calf heifers met with a steady sale and the 24 lots averaged 18£ guineas, the top price being 37 guineas for lot 94—the purchaser was Mr E. H. Hill, Taneatua.' At the dispersal of the Gaineville Stud on account of Mr F. R. Looney, and annual sale on account of Mr R. L. MacDonald, on the second day, values were somewhat higher.

The top price was 120 guineas for Lot 4 “Green Meadows Bluebill”— purchased by Mr R. Campbell, Puketaha.

The 6-year-old Herd Sire Lot A, Green Meadows Samuel, offered by Mr Looney, realised 80 guineas, to the bid of Messrs. Gillanders Bros., Waimana.

Other major values were:— Lot 74,jmw, Gaineville Fleurette 80gns, Mr J. Wilson, Galatea. Lot 67, cow, Gaineville Lybra, 75 gns, Mr Neil Reid, Taneatua. Lot 49, cow, Green Meadows Jewess, 70gns, Mr G. Spratt, Te Puke. Lot 42. cow, Gaineville Pride, 60 gns, Mr A. B. Levy, Huapai. Lot 48, cow, Green Meadows Valda 55gns, Mr J. Wilson, Galatea. The following were the average prices realised:— Gaineville Stud (Mr F. R. Looney) 45 Lots averaged 38gns.

Merriland Stud (Mr R. L. MacDonald) 25 Lots averaged 18gns. Willow Park Stud (Mr J. B. Wardlaw) 6 Lots averaged 16gns. The sales were conducted by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd.
