Liberal Stakes For the Waikato Racing Club’s Winter Meeting £ISOO in stakes has been allotted for the Waikato Steeplechase, while the prize money in the Waikato Hurdles will be £IOOO.
Blood Will Tell
Swingalong, winner of the Great Northern Oaks, is related to the famous racehorse, Phar Lap, whose dam Entreaty, produced Raphis, the dam of the Battle Song filly. Other recent winners related to the great galloper are Hot Pursuit and Honora whose breeding traces back to Entreaty. A Series of Victories
Jockey J. Williamson is acknowledged to be one of the most versatile riders in the Auckland Province. At Ellerslie he rode Dumbo to victory in the Hurdles, which made his fourth winning ride over obstacles in eight days, as he was successful on Kanui Te Pai in the Brighton Hurdles, and with Ngamutu in both the Ellerslie Steeples. At the Avondale fixture he showed his versatility by scoring on Tuis and Tutere in the Mount Eden and Morningside Handicaps. His services will be in good demand for winter events.
A Noted Southerner
Arabian Night, winner of the Southland Steeplechase last week in effortless style, was a successful performer last season. He is a seven-year-old by Lord Quex —Arab Song. Being a solid stayer and splendid jumper, he can be expected- to run prominently in North Island Steeplechases in the coming winter.
High Grade Performers Mr W. S. Goosman is to be represented in big jumping races by Town Survey and Representative. The first named has been running in flat races lately, his efforts being practically in the nature of a racing preparation. Representative may be kept to hurdling this season. He has been schooling satisfactorily at Te Rapa and is to be seen out under colours at the Waikato Winter fixture this month.
A Victory for Neenah At Flemington the Te Awamutu owned Neenah won the Felton Handicap from a strong field. He was No. 16 at the barrier, but got away well and revelled in the soft going. Trained by J. Fryer he is expected to go on with the good work.
The Brilliant Typhoon Typhoon has re-joined C. J. Stowe’s team at Hastings, and will be prepared for spring events. A Change of Scene The Australian rider, W. J. Barridge, who has 63 wins to his credit on “the other side” has taken employment at a Hawke’s Bay stable.
