WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MAT AT A APRIL MEETING . The first meeting of the year of the Matata Women’s Institute opened with the new President, Mrs Rolfe Withy in the chair assisted by Mrs H. Parkinsonas Secretary. The Institute song was sung and the Asirations read.

There were several apologies for absence received and one new member was enrolled. Delegates for the Council meeting were elected and after urgent business had been concluded dainty shoulder sprays were presented by Mrs H. Withy to all those membercs whose birthdays fell during the month. Points prizes for the past year’s competitions were presented by the president to Mrs H. Withy 1; Miss Burt 2; Mrs Conn 3 and Mrs Smith 4.

Results of the monthly competi-t-ons were as follows: Best flower, Mrs H. Withy 1; Mrs Caverhill 2; Mrs Magee 3. Best vegetable, Miss Burt 1. Shortbread, Mrs R. Withy 1; Mrs H. Withy 2. Autumn leaves, Mrs Smith 1. Marigolds, Mrs Smith 1; Mrs H. Withy 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses and a very pleasant meeting closed with all present singing the National Anthem.
