UNRRA \ Sir, —The futility and frustration of our producers of food to supply the people of Great Britain, makes one pause and think. Are we supplying the British people direct with food? Unrra is under international control (Wall Street). New Zealand is supposed to be sending food to Britain, not to Europe; yet food sent officially goes to the Unrra food bank —not to Britain as most people are led to believe. We hear of our people not having sufficient to support them in their labours, and the question is “why”? The Bank of England has produced this austerity racket, conniving in the International, Bretton Woods and forced “dollar” loan, plus the £80,000,000 guaranteed to Unrra. The “export driye” and the whole policy of control, and re- <
striction of British consumer expansion, are precisely the policy of the Bank of England under Montague Norman. (A little poverty is good for the people). But we should look further afield! Whilst the Good Lord provides for all! This unholy alliance of the international destroys. In the Western Prairies 180,000,000 bushels* of wheat have been left to rot, and millions of tons of food, clothing etc. have been destroyed for want of transport, whilst shipping was, and is being scrapped. The Cabinet (British) as a whole, states that taxation of the British is now not for revenue but to embody “socialist” ideas of Utopia; and the Bank of England (a privateJnstitution) will be used, not to finance the well-being of Britons, but to see that they remain permanently impoverished.
Yours etc.,
W. BRADSHAW.
(The allegations of our correspondent, regarding the rotting wheat in Canada cannot be substantiated today as far as we can ascertain. Ed.)
