WAGE INCREASE
EMPLOYEES ON FARMS
UNDER-AGE WORKERS
The rate and amounts payable under the Agricultural Workers’ Extension Order, 1942, have been amended and the new rates will be payable in respect of work done on or at any time after April 1, 1946.
Following the minimum wage award, a review of under-age general farm workers’ rates of pay was made under an agreement by the New Zealand Federated Farmers and the New Zealand Workers’ Union to bring them into line with the increase given to adult workers. It is pointed out that the £4 5s is exclusive of keep, which would bring the wage to the level of the adult worker.
Under the new amendment fulltime employees will be entitled to not less than the rates listed below. In addition to these rates board and lodgings must be provided by the employer and, where that is not provided,'an additional £1 per week is to be paid the worker. Under 17 years, £1 15s a week; 17 and under 18 years, £2 5s a week; 18 and under 19 years, £2 15s a week; 19 and under 20 years, £3 5s a week; 20 and under 21 years, £3 15s a week; 21 years and upwards, £4 5s a week. The rates payable to casual workers will be as follows: Harvesters, 2s 9d an hour with rations; other workers, 2s an hour and found, 2s 9d an hour if not found; 19s a day and found, £1 2s a day if not found; youths up to 18 years, Is 6d an hour and found, Is lOgd an hour if not found, 12s a day, if found, 15s a day if not found.
