WHAKATANE COMMUNITY WEEK
From Monday evening, May 6, to Friday evening, May 10, a Community week will be held in Whakatane, a week which will consist of lectures and other activities designed to help the community life of the town. For the lectures, a panel of lecturers from the Adult Education Centre in Auckland (under the auspices of the Auckland University College) will visit Whakatane for the week. This will consist of Mr P. Martin-Smith, M.A., L.L.B. (Director), Mr Owen Jensen (Music Specialist), Mr J. F. McDougall B.A. and Miss E. M. Smith, M.A. A wide and interesting syllabus will be covered at the lectures, which will take place during the day "and in the evening. Morning and afternoon lectures will centre round women in the community, and women in the home. They will include talks on current events, books, music, films, the radio, and home environment. Evening sessions will commence with talks on specialised subjects, such as music and drama and will be followed by lectures on World Affairs, the Community Centre, and on Thursday, a Brains Trust. All four lecturers will take part in this. Lunch time sessions in literature and music may also be held.
The fee for the full course of activities is' 5/- for the evening lectures, 3/6 for the’ day lectures, 3/6, and for single lectures 1/-. All those interested in the community life of the town should endeavour to be present.
