Drought a Disaster ! “The northern farmers feel that the drought was a disaster, and as such any compensation should be paid out from some fund other than the Dairy Industry Account.” Mr A. J. Murdoch M.P. at Wednesday’s meeting of farmers.
Fertiliser Supplies It is estimated, according to Mr A. J. Murdoch of the Dairy Board, that supplies of fertiliser from Nauru Island will not be available to farmers inside 18 months. In the meantime the Government has paid out £750,000 from the stabilisation account in subsidies.
Saturday's Rural Delivery At the meeting of the East Coast Dairy Association lgst Wedensday, the following resolution was passed ‘that this meeting considers a grave injustice would be done should the Postmaster General or licensing authorities permit the discontinuance of the delivery of mails and papers in rural areas.’
Farmers and Forty-hour Week “I want to say that it is impossible to work a forty-hour week in the farming industry,” said Mr A. Linton, Acting-Chairman of the N.Z. Dairy Board, when addressing last Wednesday’s meeting in Whakatane. “What we intend doing is asking for an increase in price for our products. That will offset the position, and enable us to recompense our employees accordingly. We don’t want a 40-hour week enforced on the industry. We are unanimous about this.” '*
