Registered a Third Dr. McGregor Grant’s indicator, a three-quarter brother to Phar Lap, registered a third at the Rotorua meeting. So with a little more racing experience he may get on the winning list. Being strong in conformation he may be a fair winter proposition.

Progeny of Lang Bian are noted stayers, therefore it was not surprising to find two of the family running first and second on a fetlock dead track at Ellerslie in the Nelson Handicap on Easter Monday. They were Laine Bian, of Matamata and Cracroft, Te Awamutu.
A Classy Colt In a field of ten two year olds in the Victoria Handicap at Ellerslie victory went to the Foxbridge—Gay Blonde colt, Zealander. He is a real quality type and a fine galloper. Trained by W. Bryce, at Trentham, he is owned by Messrs. A. Grant, of Timaru, and F. W. Hughes, Sydney. ■Below Form With course conditions right in his favour, and carrying 8.9 in the Nolan Handicap, the Cambridge entrant, Constitution, ran poorly indeed. In similar racing condition to that of a year ago he would have been capable of beating his opponents very comfortably, but evidently is running below form just now.
A Wide Difference in Weight With the burden of 9.11 on a distinctly muddy track, Sleepy Fox was defeated in the Huia Handicap at Ellerslie, the winner Theophilus, carrying 7.8. The latter is. a great galloper in the mud, and it might be difficult to find a candidate anywhere in the Dominion that could concede him 451bs in weight.
A Good Jumper Yank, winner of two steeplechase events at Rotorua is an eight year old gelding by Lilliput, owned and trained by Mr E. Anderton, of Frankton. He is an accomplished jumper, and even in heavy going stays on well. Alethea Retired The Mr Standfast—Wee Agnes mare, Alethea, has been retired from the turf. She was bred at Te Awamutu and during her turf career won 15 races, with stakes totalling £5600.
Lightfair Progressing The Palmerston North steeplechaser, Lightfair, by Foxlight, is getting through a strong preparation for winter events. His last year’s experience over big country should serve him in good stead.
Renewing Operations J. W. Cathro, of Matamata, who has been out of the game for two seasons, intends putting a team into work shortly. If any of the members thereof turn out to be of equal calibre to Neenah and Fortune’s Smile, he will be well justified in renewing training operations.
