MAORI FACES COURT x

Charged* with stealing a cycle lamp valued at £l, 2 gallons of benzine worth 8/6, and 20 packets of cigarettes worth 15/-, at Edgecum.be on April 13, Eddie Brown, a Maori,, appeared before the Whakatane Court last Wednesday. Messrs. G. A. Brabant and J. King, J.P.s were on. the Bench. Accused entered a plea' of guilty. As accused was a first offender, and in a delicate state of health, the Bench decided that rather than send him to gaol, he should be convicted and ordered to come up for sentence within six months if called upon, with the proviso that he remain at home in the employ of his father. Full restitution had been made.
