Nightwatchman’s Remuneration

When Mr W. Sullivan M.P. introduced the question of the Nightwatchman’s remuneration at the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, he said he considered it.something of a slur that that officer was compelled to go around the town soliciting his own pay from week to week. The secretary pointed out the difficulties involved in the Chamber employing the officer straight out, but added that it might ease the situation if all businessmen could be persuaded to pay one quarter in advance. It was agreed to adopt the course and to notify members accordingly.
