GOING TO GET WORSE
BOROUGH POWER SUPPLY
FURTHER RESTRICTIONS POSSIBLE
Speaking of the Dominionwide power shortage and the meed for greater conservative measures in Whakatane, the Mayor, at last Monday’s meeting of the Borough Council said that from an address by the Minister at the Municipal Conference, he understood that there simply was no power to reticulate and unless all centres kept within their quotas there was only one thing to do and that was to ‘cut off.’
The Electrical Engineer (Mr F. W. Lysaght) said that already the town was utilising 12 per cent on its allowance and it took the utmost care to avoid being cut off. The load for Whakatane was increased with every fresh housing unit which was erected and connected to the mains and this meant that the average consumer was compelled to conserve more and more.
Cr Shapley: What about drawing from the Paper Mills. The Mayor: The Government won’t allow that.
Cr Shapley: Not even for one might in the winter?
