BOROUGH COUNCIL REPORTS

Sir,—Thank you for answering my letter. I did not realise those paragraphs here and there in the paper, were meant to be a full report of the Borough Council’s meetings. For instance, in your issue of April 3, 1946, a paragraph to the effect, that Whakatane holds fifth place in the Dominion for population increase. Very gratifying to know that, but it could scarcely be called a full report of the Council’s meeting. I had looked for a column given entirely to the matter. When meeting was held, Councillors present general business discussed etc. and another column for any item of special interest arising out of same. Surely the reports are worthy of a column! However, one lives and learns. You already have my name and address. I think, so will sign myself THE SAME RATEPAYER.

(We feel that our correspondent’s ignorance of the true position has caused his feelings to over-ride his better judgment. The letter completely belies his alleged hunger for news of the Borough Council’s deliberations for after the March meeting (ilth) nearly two and a quarter columns of Council discussion and Borough news appeared. He has yet to read our current issues to follow the deliberations of all local bodies in this district. We don’t think anybody has. alleged the two-inch par re population to be the report of the Council meeting as is insinuated, and we strongly advise our correspondent to become a regular subscriber at a cost of only 20/- annually. He will then be more enlightened and like ourselves will then possibly ‘live and learn.’ Ed.)
