ROD AND GUN CLUB BAY OF PLENTY CUP, CONGEST ■ * • 1 ’• • - -'-V-V 1 ;* The Taneatua Rod and Gun Club held a most successful shoot on Mr W. C. Davies pro- , perty at Opouriao on March 31. v Shooters came from Hamilton, , Rotorua, Opotiki, Te Teko and Whakatane to take part and some excellent shooting was witnessed. Two heavy showers during the day delayed the shooting for some considerable time but in spite of that the pro-
gramme was completed. Mr W. Semmens, president of the club, in his speech of welcome to visiting shooters and spectators explained that they would that day be competing for the Bay of Plenty Cup. This cup was held by the Rotorua Club which had very generously brought it to the Taneatua Club’s grounds to be competed for. This Mr Semmens described as true sportsmanship on the part of the Rotorua Club and as such was deeply appreciated by the other clubs in the district. Details were as under:—
Event No. 1, 5 Birds: A. J. Brown, J. E. Ross, M. Ross, S. Kent, A. W. Parkinson, D. King, R. Stephenson, A. E. Cutherbertson, W. J. Costello, C. Mitchell and A. Powdrell all shot the possible and divided the stake. 65 entries.
Event No. 2, 10 Birds Sweepstake:' H. Ormond, R, N. McHuratt, G. N. Brown, K. Tebbutt and R. Stephenson all shot the possible and divided the stake. 66 entries.
Event No. 3, team shoot 7 men per team, 15 birds: Rotorua A team 84 kills 1; Opotiki A team 82 kills 2; Taneatua A team 77 kills 3; Whakatane A team 74 kills 4. Rotorua B team 72 kills 1; Taneatua B team 61 kills, Whakatane B team 61 kills 2.
Event No. 4, £25 Handicap: A. J. Brown 1 with the possible. A. Ormond, W. H. Semmens, J. Thomas, E. Pratt, C. Davies, A. G. Brown, J. E. Ross, M. Colden, A. Powdrell, Mayo and S. Kerr each shot 9 birds and divided second prize. In presenting the cup to Rotorua A team who retained it for their club, Mr Semmens said it had been a splendid competition and that the. best team had Won. He expressed the hope that the cup would be the means of bringing all the Bay teams together on many occasions. Mr J. Thomas, president of the Rotorua Club in reply to Mr Semmens, stated that it had given the Rotorua members much pleasure to bring the cup to be competed for in Taneatua and so help the teams in the Bay. Cheers were given for the winners and also for the Opotiki team who were runners-up.
