WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MINTING AT OTA KIRI The Otakiri Women’s Institute held its April meeting on Wednesday 3rd inst. Mrs Armstrong was in the chair, and there was a good gathering of members present. It was decided that the Birthday Meeting in May be held on the 30th April as the Annual Council Meeting fell on the usual day. The meeting will take the form of a sit-down dinner party and invitations will be sent to other Institutes. This is a special effort as this is the 25th anniversary of the forming of the Women’s Institutes in New Zealand. Mrs Peck had the pleasure of pre-

senting long service badges to Mrs G. Murray and Mrs Armstrong, Commenting on the fact that these ladies had really earned the honour as each recipient has to hold office during the years or do outside V.O. work.

Mrs W. J. Murray called for a hearty vote of thanks for the workers who had won second place at the recent Eisteddfod for the Institute, and spoke on the display of woollens that formed the wool shop in the home section in which Otakiri won first place. Entertainment was given by Mrs Gilbert who described the life and work of Edward Greig the composer and then played two of his selections which were greatly enjoyed by all. The Music Circle sang two of the Eisteddfod numbers which did cred-

it to their leader. An Arts and Craft Circle which is being formed under the capable leadership of Mrs Peck will be of assistance not only to the W.I. members but the Junior Circle and the senior girls of the local school. • A Garden Circle has also been formed and' will help to keep up the interest of the members of the culture of floral beauty.
