CARNIVAL SHOOT

EVENT WELL SUPPORTED EFFORT FOR R.S.A. Despite the inclement weather, the shoot, sponsored by the Whakatane Rod and Gun Club in support of Princess Beverley’s candidature for the R.S.A. Queen Carnival, last Sunday on the club’s ground next the Whakatane Golf Links was well supported. Although, due to weather conditions, visiting shooters from other clubs did not attend, all events were well contested by local sportsmen, the programme being altered accordingly.

'Throughout the day, an average of -from 20 to 30 entries were received for each shoot, and the public showed its appreciation of a straight eye in no uncertain manner. Owing to the number of entrants available being insufficient to warrant it, the advertised £25 shoot was cancelled.

Highlight of the day was the nonshooters shoot, which saw quite a large number of entrants, including two of the gentler sex all non-shoot-ers, endeavouring to shoot down birds as they were sent out from the traps. It is interesting to note that both ladies competing were successful in killing birds. • * Altogether the day may be judged as having been eminently successful, realising as it did, quite a substantial sum for the Memorial Appeal Fund. The following results were recorded:—

Eye Opener, 5 Birds: M. Matchitt won with the possible. Trophy and Sweepstake, 5 Birds: S. Kerr and J. Tebbutt tied with 4 birds each, Kerr winning in the shoot-off.

Trophy and Sweepstake, 10 Birds: S. Kerr won with the possible. J. Plamus, M. Matchitt, R. Stevenson and W. Kenyon tied for second place with 8 birds each and divided the stake.

Novelty Trophy and Sweepstake Shoot, 5 Birds: J. Penny, M. Matchitt and S. Luttrell tied with 8 points each. Penny won in the shoot-off. Non-Shooters Event, 5 Birds: S. Keepa, A. W. Jones and F. Cameron tied with 3 birds each. In the shootoff Keepa won, with Jones second.

Trophy and Sweepstake Shoot, 10 Birds: S. Kerr, A. Powdrell and J. Tebbutt tied with 8 birds each. Kerr won in the shoot-off.

Gimcrack (Optional Sweep) Shoot 5 Birds: H. Jackson, S. Hurst and A. Powdrell tied with 4 birds each. Powdrell won in the shoot-off.

Second Non-Shooters Event, 5 Birds: R. Rowson and H. Warren tied with 2 birds each. Rowson won in the shoot-off.
