Another Foxbridge Winner Cuba, winner of the Siverstream Handicap at Trentham, is a four year old by Foxbridge—Eager Rose, bred at Te Awamutu by Mr W. Alexander and sold at the 1943 National Sale to Mr H. M. Glazebrook of Hawke’s Bay, for 500 guineas. The G.N. St. Leger
It is the intention of Mr S. J. Barton, of Dunedin, owner of Western Front the winner of the New Zealand St. Leger at Trentham, to send the colt north to contest the Great Northern St. Leger. The Coronach representative is considered a very fine stayer.
Barwon and Majesty Interest is being taken in whether Barwon and Majesty are likely to meet in the G.N. Champagne Stakes at Easter. It is stated that Barwon is not likely to be shipped to Australia until July, and in the meantime he is not in strong work. Accident to Kuri The Foxbridge gelding Kuri, after being out for a brief spell, was brought in again at Fordell last week for light exercise. Shying at a herd of pigs he fell, breaking his rear foreleg and had to be destroyed. Bred and owned by Mr W. McA. Duncan, of Hunterville, an offer of 3000 guineas was recently refused for him. In Full Swing On Saturday there will be racing at Te Aroha, Whangarei and Wanganui. Good fields will line up at each centre, again proving there are plenty of horses in training. A Front Rank Jumper Last winter’s fine jumping performer, Master Meruit, is in full work at Hastings, and is to be seen out in the Great Northern Steeplechase. Big Money at Ellerslie For the Auckland Easter meeting of two days £IB,OOO in stakes has been allotted. The Easter Handicap, of one mile, £3OOO and Nolan Handicap of £2OOO are the principal handicap events.
Epping Will be Ready At Awapuni trainer Alf Wright has the Hunting Song gelding, Epping, in forward trim for the jumping season. Although now 11 years of age he is looked upon as a good proposition for winter racing, especially by those who appreciate Wright’s fine record with jumpers. Back to Work Dr. W. C. Ring’s Spirillum is again in work at Takanini. He-has an enlarged joint, the result of a heavy fall sustained at Te Rapa in November, but as it has become callous need not interfere with his 4preparation.
Duke of Gloucester Cup The Duke of Gloucester Cup is to be run at the Dunedin meeting in June. Evidently the club has arrived at the conclusion that there is a sufficient number of gentlemen riders in Otago and Southland to ensure the race being a success.
Sydney Easter Sales At the Sydney Easter Sales no less than 544 yearlings will be offered, including juveniles by High Caste, Beaupartir, Posterity and Veilmond.
Promising The three year old gelding Coogee, runner-up to Te Hinewai at Paeroa, is by Autopay—Wyndora. He is trained by J. Chisholm at Ellerslie, and with more experience should get on the winning list.
