SEASON CONCLUDES

EXHIBITION MARCHING SUCCESSFUL FINAL DANCE No more the early dawn shall shattered be, By cries of ‘Left’ or ‘Right’ or ‘Stand E-zee’, Nor shall the star-lit shadows soft

descend, As girls their way from marching slowly wend. No longer Bridger’s team (or Patterson’s) Shall try to vanquish, conquer, spike the guns Of erstwhile friends in opposition

teams; The marching season’s over—so it

seems. The curfew tolls the knell of part-

ing day— But marching to the town, has come to stay!) As a fitting conclusion to the Whakatane Marching Association’s gala day at the Whakatane Domain last Saturday, and also to the marching season itself, a very successful dance was staged in the King Street Hall on Saturday evening. A capacity crowd attended the function, and the programme proceeded in a bright manner.

Guests of the occasion, were the visiting teams from Ngongotaha and Waihi, the former being the winners of the competition in the afternoon. The floor was in perfect shape for dancing which was carried on under the control of Mr Harry Mole as Master of Ceremonies. Music was provided by Ted Hayden’s Embassy Club Orchestra, one of the leading bands of the district several years ago, and which was revived for the occasion.

Supper was in the capable hands of the girls, who managed the whole procedure in expert style. Hot savouries were very well received by the crowd, as also were the large variety of delicious cakes offered. Several competitions Jreld during the course of the evening were won by Mrs Butcher, Mrs Cruse, Mr Bob Cave and Mr Don Howat.
