TRANSPORT BREACHES

FINED FOR SPEEDING SEVENTY MILES PER HOUR Before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate’s Court yesterday* James C. Dudson was fined £lO for speeding on the Whakatane-Te Puke Main Highway on February 20 last. Inspector Fergusson of Thames gave evidence to the effect that he had checked defendant’s speed at 70 m.p.h. and that he had ben forced to sound his siren for a mile before defendant heard it.

Commenting that the speed mentioned was out of all reason and taking into, consideration defendant’s previous conviction at Cambridge for a similar offence, the Magistrate inflicted a fine as above. W. J. O. Vagan for operating a heavy truck at Onepu on December 30 at 45 miles per hour, and who was proceeded against by the Coum ty Traffic Inspector was fined £3 and costs 33/-.

Robert James Vagg who drove a motor van at a speed of 40 m.p.h. and pleaded guilty was fined £2 10/and costs 33/-. Stock Impounded

Rongo Nuku the owner of three horses found at large at Pekatahi and impounded by the County Poundkeeper was fined 20/- and costs 28/6.

For a similar offence Anthony Huta was fined 20/- and costs 28/6.
