Whakatane Harbour Entrance With regard to our recent par concerning the Whakatane Harbour bar, and the manner in which the boat is now experiencing less trouble in working it, we are authoritatively informed, that the sole reason for this is that less cargo is being loaded on to the boat in order that it will draw considerably less water. In this way, it is just managing to cross each time without striking the bottom.

The Court Adjourns The arival of -the jet-propelled aeroplane over the town yesterday caused even the ponderous wheels of justice to cease and momentarily to divert the attention of justiciary to the more exciting things in the sky. The machine arrived soon after the Magistrate’s Court had commenced its sitting and the ‘swish’ of its arrival made even the learned counsel pause and bend hopefully arched looks through the window. Mr E. L. Walton S.M. however came to the rescue by remarking brightly: ‘Oh, is that the Meteor. Well I think we could very well adjourn the court for a few minutes.’ The Clerk, of Court rushed the formal declaration through in about a tenth of the usual time and court officials, police, defendants, public, lawyers and learned Magistrate spilled untidily >n to the courthouse lawn.
