RABBIT CONTROL

PONGAKAWA BOARD MEETS The monthly meeting of the Pongakawa Rabbit Board took place last Wednesday, Messrs. J. N. Blaymires (Chairman), R. F. Black, D. J. Dennehy, M.‘ B. MacKenzie, C. H. Davis and the Secretary being present. Apologies were tendered on behalf of Mesrs. T. Ball and A. H. Jamieson.

The Inspector reported that the State Forest Department had poisoned the State. Forest areas, and had made a successful job of it. A letter from the Department of Agriculture was tabled, authorising additional grants of £SO for Native and £SO for Crown lands, to be expended before the end of March Dealing with rates, the secretary reported that 90 per cent, of these had been collected. The total levy was £1630, of which £1447 had been paid. At the tabling of a schedule of rate arrears, the Board decided that a final notice allowing seven days for' payment be served on all ratepayers who had not placed their position before the Board, and that where no replies -were received, steps be taken to collect the money. The unexpended balances of Government grants as at March 1, 1946, were as follows: Native land—£6s;. Crown land—£Bo.
