PAROA v WHAKATANE UNITED
A replay for the Collins Shield
took place on the Whakatane Domain over the weekend, between Paroa and Whakatane United and a good game resulted in a win for Paroa by 47 runs on the first innings.
Paroa won the toss and elected to bat opening with Martin and Goile. A fine partnership resulted, 73 runs being on the board before Martin who played a very patient innings, was bowled by Crawford. Goile continued to bat well and along with Goodwin paved the way for a sound score for Paroa. Goile 46 and Good-
win 47 played good innings and it was mainly through their efforts that Paroa reached the total of 167 runs, for few of the other batsmen managed to get going. Whakatane United started off badly Le Pine being sent back with only nine to his credit. Crawford and Spring then became associated in a good partnership and took the score ] to 64 runs before Crawford was caught by Gillam. Crawford batted well for 46 rns which included 7 I fours. Spring batted well before he j was caught by Smith. None of the other batsmen stayed long and the innings closed at 120 runs, leaving Paroa the winners by 47 runs.
Paroa now meets Waimana in the final for the Collins Shield at the Whakatane Domain on Saturday, March 30.
