AWAKERI NEWS

WELCOME HOME FUNCTION A large attendance favoured one of the most popular dances conducted by the Awakeri Welcome Home Committee, in the Awakeri Hall last Saturday evening, the guest of the occasion being Sgt. Ivan Jensen. The dance music was supplied by the Premier Band with Mr C. MacDonald in usual good form as M.C. After the supper interlude Mr C. MacDonald, on behalf of the residents of the district, paid tribute to Sgt. Jensen, wishing him a happy and prosperous future now that he had resumed civilian life. His remarks were accompanied by the presentation of .an envelope containing a cheque. Musical honours were accorded the guest.

Sgt. Jensen suitably responded and dancing continued. The third heat of the Monte Carlo, for a final prize of £6, was contested in good spirits, the lucky winners being Miss B. Luttrell and Mr M. Jensen.
