WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

THORNTON MONTHLY MEETING The Thornton Branch of the Women’s Institute held its meeting in the hall on March 14. There was a good attendance and three new members were enrolled bringing the membership to 44. Mrs Robb was appointed delegate to the Dominion Conference in Wellington and arrangements for the forthcoming Eisteddfod in Whakatane were finalised. The roll call produced some useful suggestions for programmes for the ensuing year.

Mrs Withy, Federation Organiser, occupied the chair while Mrs Ducker, the secretary, gave a report of the activities of the branch since its inception a few months before. The present officers consented to carry on another year, Mrs Robb being invited to resume the chair.

After reading the names of her officers and committee she asked Mrs Withy to speak. Her short encouraging talk on the aims and importance of Institute work was much appreciated by membei’S.

Afternoon tea was served and the meeting concluded with the National Anthem.
