Cycle Stealing Less Prevalent The police report that the outbreak of bicycle stealing which occurred some months ago has now almost ceased. One case of a cycle stolen from the stand opposite the Regent Theatre was reported this week.
Payment in Advance The attention of readers is drawn to the advertisement appearing in today’s issue notifying that all orders for coal or firewood must be accompanied by cash, or no deliveries can be mad,e.
False Alarm A false fire alarm occurred on Wednesday evening shortly after 7 p.m. when both the town and Kopeopeo sirens were sounded. The person, of whom no trace could be found, broke the glass and set the alarm going from the box outside the Union Bank. The Brigade arrived in record time. Police are at present making enquiries.
Crippled Children Society Attention is drawn to the advertisement appearing in today’s issue, announcing the annual meeting of the Crippled Children Society (Whakatane Sub-Centre) in the Borough Council Chambers on Thursday, April 4, at 7.30 p.m. Members and all others interested in this vital work are cordially invited to be present, and it is trusted that the public will accord it full support.
100 Forms Per Day
An average of one hundred forms per day dealing with the new family allowance are at present being handled by the Whakatane Clerk of Court, who reports that the reason for such a large number having to be checked at the Whakatane office is due to the fact that forms for every child born in this district no matter in what part of New Zealand the may now be residing, must be forwarded to the Whakatane office for certification.

The Whakatane harbour bar, although still at a low level, is once again becoming navigable, no trouble being experienced in bringing the boat in yesterday. Forbes and Fergusson Cups
Matches will take, place at the Whakatane Bowling Club s gi eens at Apanui on Saturday for the Forbes and Fergusson Cups. The team for the former will be Horne, A. C. King, Currah and R. Murphy (s), whilst C. Good will play in the latter. The matches will commence at 9 a.m. Drums Accumulating
Over twelve hundred drums have accumulated at the Whakatane wharf, and are awaiting shipment to Auckland. This has occurred through the boat on several trips being unable to take all required of it, resulting in a number having to be left each time.
Ohope Spotlight Playing true to his now very popular form Freddie Burt was well backed on Saturday evening when request numbers lent additional interest to the programme. Some who were focussed in the spotlight were Mr and Mrs Brown, Christchurch; Mr and Mrs Taylor, Auckland; Misses Betty Campbell, Maurine Brown, Coleen Mexted, Janet Teiry, Audrey Fairbrother, Maire Reckitt, Taupo; and Joan Challis, Auckland.-
