The Bay of Plenty Beacon Published Tuesdays and Fridays. TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 1946 OURSELVES

IN ACCORDANCE with the promise made by the proprietors that as soon as post-war conditions permitted the BEACON would lose no time in returning to its original triweekly basis, we are proud to announce that as from next month we will once again be offering the full service which was initiated when the paper was first published. Ihe paper will be published on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the subscription charge will not be varied—again to keep faith with the undertaking made when the wartime change-over became necessary. We have to tnanK most cordially our subscribers, our advertisers and the public generally for the warm and consistent support which has been extended us over the past five years when owing to circumstances beyond our control we have been forced to curtail our services both in the news and m the jobbing departments. Under the system of rationing n became impossible to expand as circumstances very, often dictated, and it likewise became impossible to oblige :m ) other directions owing to the manpower impositions. It might interest our readers to learn that at one time with a factory staff of two there remained only sufficient newsprint in stock to publish another issue. -The necessity of publishing only twice weekly has again been responsible for space limitations and staleness of the news service. This has been a source of genuine concern and worry, particularly during the past six months when with district activities quickening owing to the return of peace and the steady rehabilitation of our men returning from overseas, the volume of news and advertising has substantially increased. The management, following a process of re-ad-justment, building up staff and adding to its plant is now in a position to return to its full service by publishing three times weekly. While we have the guaranteed supply of newsprint from overseas it is the intention to maintain the new basis at all costs. Our widespread district warrants it and the goodwill which has so generously been extended the BEACON has made it possible perhaps earlier than was anticipated. Should yet another step forward to an even better service be warranted, we feel that we can assure our many friends that the BEACON will be equal to the occasion.
