WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ACTIVITIES
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women’s Institute was held last Wednesday afternoon in the Waimana Hall. There was a good attendance of members, and one new member, Mrs Hampton, Senior, was welcomed. Mrs Wylde read the Motto for the month. The singing of the Institute Song followed and Mrs Stevenson read the minutes, after which correspondence was dealt with. The Institute delegate to attend the conference in Wellington was appointed in the person of Mrs Wylde.
Mrs Mannion offered to write to a member, Mrs John Addison, who is absent from her home town.
At this stage of the meeting, Mrs F. Savage thanked one and all who helped during the show and also extended thanks to those men who helped to prepare the hall for the exhibits. The report and balance 'sheet were read and adopted. Mrs Wylde spoke to the report thanking the committee and all members- for their great help and loyal support during the past year. Mrs McConnell was appointed Auditor, for the ensuing year.
Mrs Cooper gave the Gardening Circle report and Mrs R. Looney the Drama Circle report. The election of officers proceeded as follows: - President: Mrs F. J. Savage. Secretary-Treasurer: Mrs Stevenson. - -
Vice-presidents: Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Wylde.
Committee: Mrs R. Looney, Mrs King, Miss F. Woolfield, Mrs Rust, Mrs J. D. Wardlaw, Mrs I. Savage, Mrs Mitchell.
Mrs King and Mrs Wylde were appointed stewards to help with the Eistedfod in Whakatane.
Mrs Stansbury entertained with a humorous monologue, “The Performing Flea” and received a great ovation.
The day’s competitions were well entered for. The results .were as follows:—Peach jam: Mrs Stansbury 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs I. Savage 3. Three Asters: Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs Stansbury 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Embroidered wagon covers: Mrs I. Savage 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs F. Bell 3. Best single flower: Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs Hewitt 3. Best double flower: Mrs H. Bell 1, Mrs N. Clark 2, Mrs King 3. Best vegetable: Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs I. Savage 2, Mrs King 3.
The points prizes won during the past year are as follows:—Mrs F. Bell Ist in general competition, Ist best vegetable and Ist best double flower, and 3rd best single flower. Mrs I. Savage 2nd general competitions and 2nd vegetables. Mrs H. Bell Ist for best single flower and 2nd double flower. Mrs Hewitt 3rd for general competitions and 2nd best single and double flowers and 2nd best vegetable. Miss F. Woolfield 2nd best double flower. Several members were equal in points for some competitions.
After a dainty afternroon tea had been served, Mrs Savage on behalf of the Institute members, presented the president and secretary, Mrs Wylde and Mrs Stevenson, with a gift and posy of flowers each, in appreciation of their past year’s work for the W.I. The recipients most suitably responded thanking all for the gifts. The meeting then closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
