UNITED DEFEAT TE PUKE The Whakatane United Cricket Club travelled to Te Puke oh the 16th and were successful in the challenge match for the William’s Cup against the Te Puke Club (holders).

The William’s Cup is the property of the Rotorua Cricket Association and is for competition among all affiliated clubs in the Bay of Plenty. This is the first time the trophy has been won by a club in the Whakatane district and the United Club will defend it shortly against the Kahukura Club (Rotorua). United won the toss and elected to bat. Scoring was low and the inings closed for 107 after 1| hours batting time. Te Puke commenced very cautiously and after 1J hours play 28 runs were on the board. A minor collapse then occurred and 6 were down for 41 when rain commenced to fall and the bowlers had difficulty in controlling the ball. Eventually, however, the side was dismissed for 92.

The 92 runs were compiled in 3J? hours and the United bowlers sent down no fewer than 29 maiden overs.
